Jackson is 8!

This month, Jackson turned 8!

8. years.old.  Halfway to driving!

That feels like a big number.  I think I say that every year with my first born.  We celebrated your birthday with cousins, friends, bowling and arcade time.  It was a blast.

Once again, you have majorly impressed us with your adaptability.  After an amazingly long and exciting summer, you started a second grade at a new school in September, and you were so brave about it.  You played soccer again this spring and fall, and you always have so much fun playing.  You started basketball for the first time and once again, we are impressed by how excited you are to try to new things.  You are doing well in school.  You say Math is your favorite but you really seem most excited about learning about history and ancient civilizations.  You are getting more into art, sometimes you’ll draw (tonight you drew the millenium falcon) and you colored with Maggie.  You still love to be outside with our neighbors, playing your nintendo switch (which you earned through summer reading).  I love when we get to have alone time.  Jackson, you are kind, silly, forgiving, serving, and shy.   You wake up early on the weekends and take care of your sister so your parents can sleep in a little.  You like to wake up at 6:30 on school mornings so that you can have “slow mornings”.  You are very sweet to enthusiastically compliment your mom’s cooking.  You really are so fun.  Today I had an idea for another spot for the Christmas tree and you insisted that we put it in the same corner because of “traditions”!  You love decorating the house with me for holidays.  You’re enthusiastic and you care about people.  You’re the best brother, ever.  Ever.

You like:

Going to Daddy’s office

Cooking with Me  (I really need to more often)

Hanging out with your cousins

Playing in the cul-de-sac with neighbors

Video games

Blaze Pizza (half sauce, half cheese, double the mushrooms)

Sleeping with your fan on (no matter how cold it is)

Doughnuts (and all things sugar)

Hugging your family

Chicken pot pie

Helping others

School breaks

Reading together at bedtime

Going on walks together

Building forts

3 years and 3 months

At the ripe old age of 3 years and 3 months, our boy loves:

all things christmas: christmas lights, christmas shows, making christmas star cookies, christmas trees

reading books, particularly franklin books

helping mommy and daddy with “jobs” ie cleaning the table, bathrooms, windows, vacuuming, helping daddy build things

going to school with his friends

playing pirates

hiding from and looking for “big guys”

mushroom pizza

mighty machines

doughnut holes

helping in the kitchen standing on his “ladder”

our boy does not like:

having his picture taken

blowing his nose

going to the doctor

cheerio boy

things i want to remember about right now:

he still says “blanklets”

started having quiet times instead of napping a few weeks ago and now goes to bed very early

when he wants to try and make conversation, he asks you what you got for christmas

he grew 3 1/2 inches this past year!

can sometimes describe his dreams

reminds me that we need to pray for people when they are sick

library boy

i realize that the past few posts look like the same thing over and over again.  the truth is that for the past week or so jackson has been constantly pulling this chair up to the counter and requesting that we make “treats” in the “big bowl” (my standing mixer).  jackson is learning all kinds of new words everyday.  ive noticed a pattern this weekend though, food.

last night in the car travis (quietly) asked me if i wanted anything from chickfila, then we heard from the backseat:

“chickfila – eat”.

this morning when i went in to get jackson out of his bed he greeted me by saying:

“hungry.  cookies”.

this morning around breakfast time (several times), jackson asked me to make treats with him so i told him that this afternoon after his nap we could make treats together.  i left for a baby shower while he was still napping and when i pulled the car into the driveway i saw him run to the front door.  he opened the door for me and immediately said:

and with that he ran to the kitchen and pulled his chair up to the mixer.

so we made cookies.

jackson’s 2nd birthday

Happy Birthday Sweet Jackson!

Jackson’s first day as a two year old began with the traditional sutton  birthday breakfast – swedish pancakes.  i think his favorite part was helping me cook.

he enjoyed his with strawberry jelly inside.

we were very happy to have jean, hudson, and eleanor spend the night with us last night.  the mister had to go out of town for work this week so it was nice to have family here with us on his birthday morning.

we spent the morning playing before making a trip to our favorite grocery store – trader joe’s before having lunch and taking a nap.

after naptime i took jackson to a bakery (to order a cake for his party) and to share a birthday treat with mommy (i forgot my camera!).

afterwards we visited a little used book store where jackson was delighted to find a toy train set to play with while i picked out some new books for the two of us.

we ended the afternoon with a short run to the playground and played until it was time for dinner.

i actually had to run an errand after dinner so i promised the  2 year old a special birthday balloon.

here he is with his “cheese” smile.

our 2 year old jackson is:

incredibly affectionate

slightly mischievous

(he smiles and says hey to me when he knows he’s doing something he isn’t supposed to be doing)

in love with trains

a fan of curious george, lightening mcqueen, thomas the train, and elmo

always interested in any tractor, truck, or motorcyle

not a fan of swings

great at making cow, duck, sheep, dog, and truck noises

interested in all sports and calls them “bee-ball”

jackson calls praying, “amen” and reminds me to pray if i forget

he loves reading books, particularly clifford the big red dog and goodnight moon.

we took him to his first “play” last weekend.  it was a puppet show performance of goodnight moon and runaway bunny. (he cried at first when the lights went out but then really loved it.)

he loves running in grass and being outside in general.

jackson enjoyed phone calls from his daddy and grandparents today.

we are all looking forward to celebrating his birthday together on saturday!

sweet jackson,

mommy and daddy love you so much.  we are so blessed to be your parents and are thrilled to watch you grow into a little boy.

happy birthday.
